WRAP-
RECYCLE FOR WALES
YCN ENTRY
How do we inspire and motivate more students in Wales to recycle their food waste?
INSIGHT:
Food waste can be turned into renewable energy if recycled.
SOLUTION:
Garbage in2 Gas, gives students money off of their energy bills in return for food waste.
Garbage into Gas App
Recycle your food waste to offset your energy bills.
Each week scan in your shopping receipts to receive an estimated weight as a household.
If you hit your estimated weight you will be given money off of your energy bills, calculated from the energy produced from your recycled waste.
Pop ups of which food items are usually not recycled will appear, to remind you to recycle as much as you can.
On collection day the Leaderboard will be updated to reveal who reached their target. Compete with other houses and Universities.
The Leaderboard will be updated weekly and if you are consistently hitting your targets, you will be in the running for even bigger rewards.
Those closest to their estimated weight will receive credit towards their energy bills in correlation to the energy produced from their waste which can be redeemed at the end of the month.
The winners screen would have unlocked even more rewards, which will be updated weekly. Simply type in the code at checkout to redeem.
OOH Campaign
Print ads will be placed in supermarkets and around campus as this is where students usually are, which will be fitted with NFC tags for easy download.
Reskinned Bins
Food waste bins will be reskinned and delivered to halls of residence and student housing at the beginning of each year to ensure everyone is involved.
Supermarket Stickers
Stickers will be put on food items in supermarkets that are normally not recycled. This will put it in the students mind right from the start of their food shop, to every time they open the fridge.
